A Learning Lab on the Trail

The new trail will make it possible for everyone to see and learn about our local watershed and spark ideas for positive action!

The impaired Little Conestoga Creek is a microcosm of the challenges and opportunities for clean water across Lancaster County. 

Our vision for the learning lab:

  • Inspire curiosity and increase knowledge of healthy waterways, ecosystems, and restoration efforts.
  • Intentionally place a vibrant range of educational amenities along the trail for all ages.
  • Tell the story of how the past shaped the present.
  • Empower environmental stewardship and catalyze future restoration.
  • Connect people to nature for discovery, appreciation, and joy.

Trailside Experiential Learning for All Ages

As you explore the trail, encounter interpretive panels, kiosks, artwork, demonstration areas, exhibits, and wildlife observation stops!  Deepen your learning with audio guides and digital content.

Research Alignment

The Blue Green Connector is an active research site led by the Chesapeake Watershed Initiative at Franklin & Marshall College. Learn more about their research and get involved through our live Water Quality Dashboard and Citizen Science initiative, coming soon.

K-12 Alignment

Environmental Literacy & Sustainability is an important new addition to Pennsylvania’s K-12 curriculum. We strive to make the Connector a destination for environmental education.  Outdoor learning spaces will support study of the restored stream, wetland, meadow, and forest ecosystems. Resources will support meaningful outdoor experiences for students and teachers.

Public Programs & Events

We welcome organizations and individuals to “plug in” for a thriving community experience on the trail.  Consider volunteering your time to keep this space clean and green.  We look forward to hosting bike tours, bird watching hikes, native plant classes, stewardship training, and volunteer opportunities after the trail is constructed!
